Abstract
A morphological comparison of the yeast phase of strains of Histoplasma capsulatum and H. duboisii was made and the observations were related to the per cent of size distribution. The results obtained were compared with the distribution of cell sizes found in the pus of a human patient infected with H. duboisii. The results of these examinations showed that certain cultural characteristics of strains of H. duboisii differed from those of H. capsulatum and were also reflected in the populations of H. dubiosii found in the pus. The morphological forms of H. duboisii were characterized and delineated from the giant forms produced by H. capsulatum. Certain factors influencing the production of the giant cells of both species were described. Etude morphologique comparative des phases levures des souches d'Histoplasma capsulatum et d'H. duboisii; les observations morphologiques sont étudiées en fonction de la distribution des dimensions cellulaires. Les résultats obtenus sont comparés avec les dimensions des cellules présentes dans le pus d'un malade atteint d'histoplasmose africaine à H. duboisii. Les résultats de ces examens montrent que certains caractères culturaux des souches d'H. duboisii diffèrent de ceux d'H. capsulatum et ces différences se reflètent également dans la population des cellules d'H. duboisii du pus. Les grandes formes d'H. duboisii sont caractérisées et différenciées des formes géantes produites par H. capsulatum. Certains facteurs influençant la production des cellules géantes des deux espèces sont décrits.
