Abstract
MMPI responses of 76 allergic and 76 nonallergic individuals were analyzed by the Chi square technique. 54 items were found to successfully discriminate (p. .05 or better) between experimental and control subjects. These discriminating items were pattern analyzed in terms of: family relations, sexual problems, social reactions, social conflicts, social attitudes, physiological reactions, and self-reactions. Of special interest is the suggestion that allergies lack ability to compensate for personal deficiencies which distinguishes them psychologically from psychosomatics with similar symptoms.
