Abstract
From the above, the author has endeavoured to show, through various examples, that boys' and girls' attitudes towards language learning cannot and should not be seen in isolation from socio-cultural and educational factors. It has been argued throughout that society has norms for the sexes and that these social norms do not seem to conflict with girls learning a language, whereas they do for boys. Attitudes, it must be constantly born in mind are learned and are, therefore, subject to modification and change by further learning. Unless the whole society, teachers and parents adopt a more positive and balanced approach towards gender roles, there will always be an imbalance between the sexes in language learning and elsewhere. Keywords
