Abstract
The hearts of the crayfish were studied by electron microscopy with particular attention to the intra- and inter-cellular conduction systems of the excitation. The transverse tubular system was demonstrated clearly by using Ruthenium red at the level of M- and Z-band, where it constituted the diads and triads with the sarcoplasmic tubules respectively. Each muscle cell attached longitudinally by the structure similar to the intercalated disc in vertebrate heart. Close contact zone (with a gap of about 140Å) between apposed plasma membranes was observed. The present observations were discussed with reference to their physiological implication. Keywords
