AN EXAMPLE OF REVERSAL OF POLARITY DURING ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION OF A HYDROID

Abstract
Asexual reproduction, involving reversal of the original oral-basal polarity is described on specimens taken off Pt. Richmond, San Francisco Bay, California. This leads, in the hydroid, to the production of paris of polyps sharing a common base. The systematic position of the hydroid is not established, although the cnidom suggests affinities among the gymnoblasts.
