Abstract
A piecewise version of the Root-MUSIC algorithm to find the directions of multiple narrowband plane waves arriving at an antenna array is presented. The problem of choosing low-SNR signal roots from extra roots in Root-MUSIC is addressed by dividing the unit circle into several sectors. The response of an arbitrary planer array over each sector is modeled with a low-order Fourier series, permitting a MUSIC polynomial to be constructed for each sector. The resulting version of Root-MUSIC is more accurate and has fewer outliers (missed directions) than the original one-piece version at low SNRs, and is faster when implemented using parallel processors. Keywords
