Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 31-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of a calcified abdominal mass.She was well until 10 years earlier, when pain developed in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen, and she entered another hospital. Examination disclosed that she was febrile. A Grade 2 systolic ejection murmur was heard over the precordium, without radiation. There was tenderness with spasm in the right lower abdominal quadrant. Laparotomy revealed no abnormality, and a normal appendix was excised. Postoperatively, blood cultures yielded a growth of alpha-hemolytic streptococci, and a diagnosis of subacute bacterial endocarditis was made. She was . . .
