Abstract
Since March 1974 microbiology reporting at Northwick Park Hospital has been done through a computer, and 42,000 results are now on the computer files. Among 1497 Escherichia coli from urine 66% were sensitive to suiphonamide, 78% to tetracycline, 83% to ampicillin, 92% to cephalexin, and 96% to nitrofurantoin and co-trimoxazole. Among non-urine, hospital isolates of 630 aerobic, Gram-negative rods other than Pseudomonas 59% were sensitive to ampicilhin, 86% to tetracycline and cephaloridine, and 94% to co-trimoxazole. Of 56 isolates of Streptococcus pyogenes 63% were sensitive to co-trimoxazole, and 70% to tetra cycline. Of 79 anaerobic streptococci 59% were sensitive to tetracycline, 64% to co-trimoxazole, and 90% to cephaloridine; and of 122 Bacteroides only 41% were sensitive to co-trimoxazole, 47% to tetracycline, and 89% to fusidic acid
