Abstract
Leucine alone or mixtures of various essential amino acids with or without leucine if administered in sufficient quantities increased the output of cholic acid from cholecystonephrostomized or external bile fistula dogs. This result indicates that, for the essential amino acids used, the cholepoietic effect of casein or of mixtures of essential amino acids is not a property of any specific acid or group of acids, but varies directly as the log of the molar amt. of 1 essential amino acid administered. Previous results with casein are in accord with such a hypothesis. Those obtained with gelatin and Zein, both cholepoietically inactive proteins, are not. Keywords
