Influence of Adult Feeding on Reproduction and Diapause in Laboratory-Reared Pink Bollworms1

Abstract
Effects of 4 treatments involving feeding of adult pink bollworms, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), on reproduction and on diapause response in resulting larval progeny were tested. Mating and egg laying were significantly lower when moths were starved or given only water compared with those fed with 10% sucrose or 10% honey solutions. Egg hatch was lower when adults were starved or fed 10% honey. There were no significant differences in the diapause response of larval progeny from different treatments.
