STUDIES ON THE LIFE CYCLE OF SPIROCHETES

Abstract
Observations on the pathogenic T. pallidum as it occurs in the rabbit testis were obtained by means of a special staining procedure carried out upon impression smears of fresh infected testicular material. The observations confirm in essence those accomplished by phase contrast microscopy, and demonstrate the presence in this organism of both unispirochetal and multispirochetal cysts. The structures observed are comparable to those defined by phase contrast microscopy in the cultures of nonpathogenic strains of T. pallidum (Kazan and Nichols).
