Cyclitols. XXVI. The solvolysis of tosylinositols in acetic acid

Abstract
Several monotosyl derivatives of inositols have been solvolysed in boiling acetic acid. In some cases the reaction occurs with predominant inversion and then presents a method suitable for the synthesis of rare cyclitols, e.g., allo- and muoo- inositols and their methyl ethers. In other cases, inversion and retention occur to a similar extent.
