Time-of-arrival formalism for the relativistic particle
Abstract
A suitable operator for the time-of-arrival at a detector is defined for the free relativistic particle in 3+1 dimensions. There exists a physical subspace of the Hilbert space of solutions to the Klein Gordon equation for each detector position. Orthogonality and completeness of the eigenfunctions of this operator -opening up a standard probabilistic interpretation- apply inside each of these subspaces. The comparison of the results of different detectors raises new issues of interpretation. Keywords
