Abstract
Cacao fat with an odd number of C atoms was prepared by bromination of cacao fat alc., prep. of the nitriles, their hydrolysis and formation of the glycerides by heating with glycerol in the presence of Zn. "Resynthesized" cacao fat was prepared by saponification of the natural fat, distillation of the fatty acids and re-formation of the glycerides. When the 2 prepared fats, which contained no unsaturated acids, and natural cacao fat were fed to groups of rats at levels of 5%, 10% and 20% of the dry wt. of the diet, there was no difference in growth, in the composition or I number of the body fats, or in their utilization during subsequent starvation. Both human subjects and rats absorbed 93-97% of the fats and after their ingestion the R. Q. of rats was decreased. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
