Abstract
Using cholesterol-26-C14 and 20a-hydroxycholesterol-22-C14 as substrates, the presence of the cholesterol side-chain desmolase in cow ovarian tissues has been demonstrated. The distribution of the desmolase in various ovarian tissues was found to be related to the degree of secretory activity. The conversion of cholesterol-4-C14 to progesterone was confirmed in corpus luteum homogenates. The conversion of Δ5-pregnenolone to progesterone was observed in corpus luteum and, to a lesser extent, in follicular tissue, but not significantly in follicular fluid. Several types of gonadotrohpin failed to increase these reactions in vitro. Keywords
