Programmed Instruction in Picture-Sound Association for the Aphasic

Abstract
Programmed instruction in picture-sound and picture-spoken word association was given to 23 aphasic patients, 6 left hemiplegic patients, and 11 hospitalized controls. The aphasic patients made significantly more errors in picture-sound association than the nonaphasic groups, and 10 aphasics classified as posterior made significantly more errors than 13 patients classified as anterior, confirming results reported previously by Spinnler and Vignolo. Examination of several individual cases suggested that programmed instruction of this type may be most helpful for those patients who benefit from conventional therapy.
