Abstract
Short-lived temperature spikes have been observed following Coulomb excitation in rare-earth oxides. The thermal aftereffects were detected by observing the Mössbauer effect in the decay of Coulomb-excited states of , , and . The results are in reasonable agreement with a simple model based on heat-flow theory.
