Abstract
TI1e deduced amino acid sequence of a Schistosoma mm1.wni cDNA encoding cathepsin C is 30 % identical to cathepsins B and L of the parasite. Molecular model structures of cathepsins C and L were compared with the crystal structures of papain and human liver cathepsin B as well as with a previously established model of schistosoine cathepsin B. All three parasite cysteine proteases show strong similarities to papain and human liver cathepsin B, but with several individual differences, also in their probable interactions with peptidyl substrates. Keywords
