Red Imported Fire Ant: 1 Effects on Onthophagus gazella2 and the Horn Fly 345

Abstract
When various combinations of populations of red imported fire ants, Solenopsis invicta Buren, dung burying beetles, Onthophagus gazella (F.), and horn flies, Haematobia irritans (L.), were confined in rearing boxes, the imported fire ant alone suppressed horn fly populations more than O. gazella alone. Also, populations of S. invicta plus populations of O. gazella suppressed populations of horn flies more than populations of O. gazella alone. The imported fire ant had little effect on either adults or developmental stages of O. gazella .
