Abstract
A microscopic treatment, based on the BCS model of a superconductor, of the magnetic field generated inside a rotating cylindrical superconductor (London moment) is presented. The rotation of the superconductor is treated by considering the superconductor to be in an appropriate gravitational field and Bogolubov's self-consistent field method is used to calculate the current generated by the rotation. The field obtained is found to agree with that predicted by other treatments and observed experimentally.
