Abstract
The clinical and laboratory responses to antibiotic therapy were investigated in a patient with an infected vascular access resulting in persistent S. aureus bacteremia. There was no clinical or autopsy evidence of a mycotic aneurysm, infective endocarditis or metastatic abscess formation and tolerance to vancomycin was not demonstrated. All blood culture isolates remained sensitive in vitro to vancomycin and rifampin but splenic blood cultures grew S. aureus at autopsy, strongly suggestive of a vancomycin-rifampin combination failure. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
