Abstract
POSTMORTEM cesarean section deliveries are infrequently reported in the literature. In 1956, Kelly and Winston1 found only 111 cases reported in which the infant survived. To these they added 2 cases from the New York Metropolitan Hospital Center. De Kruif2 provided 1 more; Weil and Graber,3 an additional 2; Leonard and Stone,4 2 more in 1958; Wacker,5 1 in 1959; Hendrick,6 1 in 1960, and Cloud,7 4 in 1960. This makes a total of 124 cases in which the operation was followed by survival of the infant and his discharge from the hospital. Only in a few instances is the subsequent growth and development of these children mentioned. In these cases where the follow-up period ranged from 8 weeks to 18 months, it was said that the children grew and developed normally. In the Michigan Maternal Mortality Study, the fetal outcome is
