Cesarean Section Delivery After Death of the Mother

Abstract
POSTMORTEM cesarean section deliveries are infrequently reported in the literature. In 1956, Kelly and Winston1 found only 111 cases reported in which the infant survived. To these they added 2 cases from the New York Metropolitan Hospital Center. De Kruif2 provided 1 more; Weil and Graber,3 an additional 2; Leonard and Stone,4 2 more in 1958; Wacker,5 1 in 1959; Hendrick,6 1 in 1960, and Cloud,7 4 in 1960. This makes a total of 124 cases in which the operation was followed by survival of the infant and his discharge from the hospital. Only in a few instances is the subsequent growth and development of these children mentioned. In these cases where the follow-up period ranged from 8 weeks to 18 months, it was said that the children grew and developed normally.
