Abstract
Assessment of the thickness of the free wall of the left ventricle in end-diastole, at the mid-portion, appears to be of great value in order to make the diagnosis of early stages of muscular subaortic cardiomyopathies. Values tended to be increased in valvular stenosis more frequently when the measurement was made at the apex. In supravalvular stenosis the thickness was greater in all cases, even though the number of observations was too small to draw definite conclusions. The results in suboartic stenosis are not significant enough to be of diagnostic value. Assessment of the free wall of the left ventricle at the upper, mid or lower part can be made accurately not only by left ventriculogram but also by conventional venous angiocardiogram, during the phase of levo angiocardiogram. Thicker wall of the left ventricle is not pathognomonic of muscular subaortic stenosis, obviously, and may be found in many other diseases as myocarditis, obscure cardiomyopathies, tumors of the free wall of the left ventricle.
