Abstract
One of the characteristics of end-stage HIV infection is dementia, the exact causes of which remain elusive. In a Perspective, Gartner debates the evidence for the hypothesis that the trigger for the initiation of HIV-associated dementia is the activation of monocytes in the bone marrow and their transmigration into the brain.Keywords
