Abstract
The right adrenal gland in rats contains 98.5% as much epinephrine as the left, with standard deviation of 13.7%. (Noel''s biological assay method). Data are shown concerning the relationships of adrenal gland wt., body wt., and sex to the epinephrine content. After unilateral adrenalectomy, wt. of the remaining gland rapidly increases, but epinephrine content remains unchanged. Innervation of the adrenal is not necessary for the synthesis of epinephrine, as shown by fact that glands which were exhausted of epinephrine by means of physostigmine injn. and then denervated, recovered completely their store of epinephrine after 3 days, compared with contralateral glands which were not denervated. Keywords
