Abstract
Direct ultrastructural examination of tissue from three patients with necrotizing fascitis showed a large number of bacterial morphotypes that differed in cell size, cell shape, cell wall architecture, and cell wall structure. These bacteria occurred in small micro-colonies in contrast to the larger monospecies micro-colonies that form in chronic polymicrobial infection. Keywords
