Abstract
The alternation of soft and hard faeces excretion of rabbits follows an endogenous rhythm which in a L/D:12/ 12 is entrained with the Zeitgeber. In continuous light the free running period t amounts to 24.75 ± 0.57 hrs. When after 39.5 days of L/L a L/D:12/12 is switched on, animals entrain to the Zeitgeber with average period lengths of 25.27 ± 1.95 hrs. Following inversion of the L/D schedule 9 out of 12 animals had been synchronized with the Zeitgeber again after 14 days (t = 24.72 ± 0.88). The shift of the excretory period within the first seven days had been accomplished by over 75%.Keywords
