Abstract
The phonon dispersion curves in solid biphenyl are calculated. It is shown that the commensurate‐incommensurate phase transition is induced by mixing of anharmonic molecular torsion and acoustic phonons. The parameters of the anharmonic potential for torsion vibrations and temperature dependence of the soft mode are obtained. Keywords
