Effectiveness and Persistence of Insecticides Applied During the Summer Months to Control Oriental Fruit Moth on Peach

Abstract
Injury by the oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta(Busck)) to ripening peach varieties Summer crest and Elberta in untreated orchards in central New Jersey averaged 23.3% over a period of 19 years. Applications of EPN, parathion, Sevin® (1-naphthyl N-methylcarbamate), or Guthion® (O,O-dirnethylS-(4-oxo-1,2,3-benzotriazin-3-( 411)-ylmethyl) phosphorodlthioate) about July 10 and August 1 effectively prevented such injury. Chemical analysis showed considerable differences between deposits of insecticides on leaves and fruit in orchards and the rates at which they disappeared. Bioassay of residues showed marked differences in toxicity to stages of the oriental fruit moth at various intervals up to g weeks after sprays were applied to orchard plots. The rate of parathion residue loss from leaves and fruit was not reduced by formulating this insecticide with various materials of low vapor pressure.This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
