Abstract
AXE is a stored program controlled (SPC) telephone exchange system. Its control system typically comprises 100 000 IC packages with MTBF = 200 h. The application allows the control system to contribute to the system outage with only a few minutes per year. An ordinary telephone technician is able to maintain the system, mainly during normal working hours. Keywords
