Abstract
Too often, patients do not mention heartburn and other related symptoms to their physicians, and they treat themselves with over-the-counter medications. For these reasons, routine questioning about symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux is important when taking a medical history. In this article, the authors provide guidelines to help determine whether a patient has reflux disease and to what extent injury has resulted. Treatment methods are also discussed. Keywords
