Effects of Diseases on Crop Plants

Abstract
In studying the effects of diseases on crop plants more attention must be paid to the host than it usually receives. The green plant is able to compensate for damage to its organs, and a quantitative estimate of this action is essential to rational interpretation of economic losses from disease. Work in this field is progressing, and results of practical importance have been obtained by the artificial defoliation of plants and other techniques.
