Abstract
Edelstein, Wolfgang (1975). Curriculum Reform in Iceland: An integrated approach to educational innovation. Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research 19, 13‐26. Curriculum revision in Iceland, beginning with physics in the late sixties, originally set out in a traditional vein as an attempt at discipline‐based modernization of obsolete teaching materials under the influence of the behavioral objectives movement. The reform gradually came to affect the introduction of new and the integration of old disciplines, instructional methods, evaluation, both within class and central, inscrvice training of teachers and various administrative functions including qualitative planning in the Ministry and a new type of inspectorate. The reconceptualization of the entire syllabus is affecting process and content of the 9‐year compulsory school, promoting process‐oriented, Piaget‐type reformulations of the objectives of instruction. An overview over the development of the reform, including planning procedures and the characteristic strategy of teacher participation in the construction process, is presented.
