Abstract
Preliminary investigations establishing a standard assay procedure for B-glucuronidase in mice kidneys were carried out. Using this procedure, the effect of incubation of several mice kidney preparations on the enzyme activity was measured. Kidney slices from untreated mice showed an average increase of about 25% of the enzyme activity during incubations for 4.5 hours (P <0.0125). Under identical con-ditons, the kidney slices of testosterone-treated mice increased in activity by about 9% (P unspecified0.0125). No increase of activity was observed with kidney half-sections or homogenates, with kidney slices incubated anaerobically and with kidney slices of sesame oil-treated and sham-injected mice. Studies on the rate of increase of activity with time with kidney slices of untreated mice showed an increase of about 7% in 0.75 hour, 13% in 1.5 hours, 25% in 4.5 hours and 33% in 7.5 hours, whereas with testosterone-treated mice kidney slices, the increase was about 8% in 0.75 hour and 9.5% in 1.5 hours with a slight decrease up to 7.5 hours. Keywords
