Abstract
This paper covers the analysis of the problem of self-excited current oscillations which may occur when synchronous machines are closely coupled to transmission lines which are highly compensated with series capacitors. A mathematical analysis is made. Corrective measures are suggested and the results of confirming tests are discussed. Two typical system configurations which would be likely to produce these self-excited oscillations are used as examples for detailed calculations. Keywords
