Abstract
A new series of observations at 1.65 Mc/s, 2.3 Mc/s, 4.8 Mc/s and 9.6 Mc/s has been used to measure the spectrum of the general background galactic radio emission in the direction of the south galactic pole. The antenna resolution was 32° × 40° at each frequency. The flux density was observed to decrease below 5 Mc/s with a spectral index of 1.2 between 1.65 Mc/s and 2.3 Mc/s. The effect of the ionosphere on the observations is discussed.
