Abstract
To the Editor: We were interested to read the letter in which Dr. Hanin1 questioned the use of choline and lecithin in the treatment of a number of psychiatric and neurologic diseases and concluded that the mechanisms by which these substances affect central cholinergic functioning may be more complex than at first thought. His letter prompted us to report our experience with the use of choline in Alzheimer's disease; in our hands, this treatment has proved disappointing. There is evidence that the activity of choline acetyltransferase, a key enzyme in the synthesis of acetylcholine, is reduced in the brains of . . .Keywords
