Abstract
The magnitude and sense of CH bond moments are of paramount importance in discussing quantitatively the polar properties of organic systems. In this paper arguments based on experimental and theoretical studies are advanced for the belief that the moment has the sense C–H+ in all hydrocarbons. For the first time the importance of changes in the homopolar dipoles during vibration is pointed out and estimated. Keywords
