Abstract
A review of the literature revealed 10 [human] cases of sensori-neural deafness audiometrically documented with or without vestibular dysfunction caused by early syphilis. A case of acute labyrinthitis and a case of vestibular neuronitis both caused by early syphilis wih details of investigations and management were presented. Pathological mechanisms and Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction were discussed. The importance of early diagnosis and early treatment with penicillin and prednisolone was stressed. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
