Abstract
On the basis of the interface equation of motion suitable for binary solids the author studies the time evolution of a thermodynamically unstable system quenched below a phase separation temperature. The crossover from the surface-diffusion-dominated to the bulk-diffusion-dominated process is derived explicitly. It is also shown that the thermal fluctuations are irrelevant for coarsening at low temperatures. Keywords
