COMPRESSION OF THE CELIAC TRUNK AND ABDOMINAL ANGINA

Abstract
In spite of present awareness of the problems of older patients with abdominal angina, significant arterial lesions of the abdominal vessels may be overlooked. Twenty-seven patients with emphasis on 15 with abdominal angina probably due to partial celiac artery compression by the median arcuate ligament of the diaphragm are discussed. Thirteen of these 15 patients have had decompression of the cellac artery with relief of symptoms in each instance. The need for careful auscultation of the abdomen in patients with abdominal pain and detailed aortograms in both planes of those patients with persistent bruits is stressed.
