Abstract
1. Sickle-cell anaemia may be suspected from roentgenographic findings, but cannot be definitely diagnosed from such evidence alone. 2. In older patients the symptoms of bone and joint disease, rather than the anaemia, may bring the patient to the attention of the physician. 3. The bone changes are due to a combination of bone-marrow hyperplasia and repeated infarction.
