Computerized Diagnosis of Anemias Based Upon Red Blood Cell Indices and Related Cell Counts

Abstract
In the clinical diagnosis of anemia, red blood cell indices and related cell counts show distinguishing patterns that are characteristic of different types of anemias. A computer program called the Anema-Graph, developed in BASIC, makes it possible to suggest a diagnosis of anemia based on the pattern recognition ability of the program using the patients' blood cell indices and counts. This program saves valuable time when a patient diagnosis is being made and offers new possible diagnoses that may have been overlooked.
