Abstract
Water soluble extract from the kidney made ischemic by Goldblatt clamp was made, using 1 cc. physiological saline to each g. of kidney tissue, ground, placed in mechanical shaker and then centrifuged and fluid filtered. 5-7 cc. of the extract from the ischemic kidney caused a pressor action and extract from control kidney from same animal had no effect. Extracts from ischemic spleen and muscle had no effect. Pressor substance was more concentrated in the kidney cortex. Similar pressor results were obtained by using extracts from kidneys of humans having hypertension but not as conclusively as with exptl. animals. Renin was not significantly increased in hypertensive rabbits. Keywords
