Action of Dinitro Compounds on Sea Urchin Eggs

Abstract
At a concn. of 4-6 dinitro-o-cresol where O2 consumption of fertilized and unfertilized sea urchin eggs (Arbacia punctulata) is raised to an optimum degree, cell division is reversibly suppressed in the fertilized eggs. The adverse effect on division is a nuclear rather than a cytoplasmic process and is greatest in prophase.
