Abstract
Over the period of 2 yr, investigations were carried out on a temporary pond having an average life of 6 months. Physicochemical conditions, including diurnal variations, were noted, as well as seasonal variations in the fauna. The ability of the animals present to withstand the period without water is discussed, and finally a comparison made between temporary and permanent habitats, using the pond under study together with six other local ponds.
