Abstract
The density of spin‐wave states in ordered and disordered linear Heisenberg chains is investigated. The disorder is introduced by setting random quantities for the exchange integrals. The model also includes the effect of surface spin pinning and variations of the exchange integrals near the film faces upon the spectrum. Surface modes as well as the bulk spectrum for both types of order are discussed. Keywords
