Abstract
The excretion of estriol (oestra-1,3,5( 10)-triene-3,16a, 17B-triol) in the urine during the first few days of life was determined in 21 healthy boys and 23 healthy girls. The excretion was found to vary widely not only between different individuals but also from day to day in one and the same individual. The excretion of estriol was on the average highest in both sexes on the second day of life. After the third day the excretion fell rapidly. No difference was found between the sexes during the first three days of life. The excretion of oestriol in 18 newborns with congenital dislocation of the hip was of the same order as that in normal infants.
