Abstract
A phenomenological study was conducted in order to describe the experience of children as they accompany their mothers who are leaving abusive relationships. Thirteen children were interviewed. The children describe their experience as having three components: living with violence, living in transition and living with Mom. Themes within these components are identified, and implications for nursing practice are discussed. Keywords
