Abstract
The Knight shift, K S, of the nuclear magnetic resonance of 23Na has been measured in a number of alloys of Na containing small additions of Hg, Cd, Tl and Pb. K S, decreases linearly with the concentration, c, and the parameter (1/c)(ΔK S K S) is found to be -0·59, -0·92, -1·48 and −3·0% per atomic fraction of the Hg, Cd, Tl and Pb solutes respectively. The change in Knight shift was also calculated from a formula based on the pseudo-potential model of a liquid metal. Moderate agreement with the experimental data was obtained. Keywords
